🔧 Kia/Hyundai 2.2 R Engine Oil Leak? Don’t Assume It’s the Oil Filter Housing.

When changing engine oil or inspecting the engine, oil is often found around the oil filter housing on Kia and Hyundai 2.2 R diesel engines.

While the oil filter housing gasket is a common suspect, another frequent source is the Oil Pressure Control Valve, located directly above the housing.

If the valve or its O-ring begins to leak, engine oil runs downward and covers the oil filter housing, making it appear that the housing itself is leaking.

Inspection Tips

• Clean the area thoroughly before diagnosis.
• Start the engine and identify the exact point where fresh oil appears.
• Check the Oil Pressure Control Valve body and O-ring first.
• If the top of the housing is dry but the lower section is wet, the leak may be coming from above.

Because the Oil Pressure Control Valve and oil filter housing are located close together, it is often practical to inspect or replace both during the same repair when access is already available.
